Conventional LASIK resurfaces the cornea to a spherical structure. The central light rays are focused accurately however the peripheral light rays are slightly defocused. Newer LASIK treatment performs Aspheric ablation, where all light rays are focused accurately. This considerably improves the colours, contrast and clarity. Glare and Halos around light are much lesser.
Each cornea has surface irregularities (when examined at a microscopic level), technically called higher order aberrations. Customized Lasik addresses them in addition to the laser done for refractive power. This provides further improvement in vision quality over conventional Lasik.
SBK uses a special instrument that creates the corneal flap of just 90 microns instead of conventional 120 microns. This leaves a thicker, sturdier and a safer corneal bed after completion of Lasik ablation. It is recommended for all Lasik subjects and especially for those with thin corneas.

Back-to-back femto-laser spots joined together create the cleavage plane which in conventional LASIK, is performed by a motorized sharp blade. Computerized delivery of these laser spots ensures the cleavage plane is formed at exactly the desired depth of thickness, enhancing accuracy and safety.
